Cretex Brings Spectralytics Into Medical Group

Elk River, Minn.-based Cretex Companies Inc. has completed the acquisition of Spectralytics Inc., a Dassel, Minn.-based provider of laser-based services to the medical device industry.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are delighted to add Spectralytics to our Cretex Medical group,” said Lynn Schuler, CEO of Cretex. “Spectralytics brings laser cutting, drilling, and welding to our already-extensive portfolio of tight tolerance, precision manufacturing capabilities. We are also pleased that Gary Oberg, the founder of Spectralytics, will continue to lead the company.”

Spectralytics specializes in stent production, laser ablation, laser marking, and drilling of close tolerance holes required for catheters and embolic protection devices. Spectralytics works with multiple materials, including metals, polymers, and bioabsorbable polymers and composites.

In early November this year, Cretex unveiled new branding for its medical group of companies, Cretex Medical. Spectralytics will be joining RMS, RMS Surgical, Meier, and JunoPacific under the umbrella of Cretex Medical. These companies provide a range of contract manufacturing services for implantable, non-implantable, durable and disposable medical devices.
